Raising the profile as a visitor destination. In Avoca visitors tend to visit for a short period of time (The Ballykissangel factor). With the development of the mining heritage story the profile of Avoca will be raised. In the long term, the restoration of the Avoca river as a salmon river would attract significant numbers of angling tourists. Amlwch has already established a significant attraction based on the Industrial Heritage. The mine and historic port are anchor points in the European route of Industrial Heritage. A visitor centre has been upgraded and trained guides are available to lead tours of the port and mountain. Interreg funding will strengthen the attraction between late 2005 and mid 2008. This will be achieved by the following actions: * Production of maps and brochures on walks/general history of the area * Preparation of education packs * Erection of directional signage * Improvements to historical interpretation * Setting up of web site * Facilitation of student exchange between Avoca & Amlwch. |
